Introduced in 1970 by Anthony M. Shammarello of South Euclid, Ohio, Elsie Lee is a stunning result of crossing Rhododendron 'Desiree' and Rhododendron 'Rosebud'. This semi-dwarf shrub features semi-double, widely funnel-shaped flowers, 2¼ - 2½ inches wide, in a beautiful shade of pink with bluish or lavender overtones. Growing to a height and width of 3 to 4 feet, 'Elsie Lee' boasts an upright, broad form, making it an elegant addition to any garden.

Growing Tips for Azalea ''Elsie Lee''

Thrives in acidic, organically rich, well-drained soil with medium moisture in part shade or dappled sunlight. Morning sun with afternoon shade is ideal, and protection from strong winds is recommended. Avoid planting near walnut trees and ensure good drainage, especially in heavy clay soils; consider raised beds. Mulch to retain moisture and stabilize soil temperature, and clip off spent flowers after blooming.
